Benworth President Reappointed to the Miami-Dade College Board of Trustees

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Governor Rick Scott announced four appointments and nine reappointments to multiple state boards.

Miami Dade College District Board of Trustees

Marili Cancio, of Key Biscayne, is the owner of Marili Cancio & Johnson P.A. She received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern University and her juris doctorate degree from Temple University. Cancio is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending May 31, 2019.

Bernie Navarro, of Miami, is the president of Benworth Capital Partners. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and his master’s degree from Harvard University. Navarro is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending May 31, 2021.

Juan C. Zapata, of Miami, is the owner of Zapata Consulting. He previously served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives and as a Miami Dade County Commissioner. Zapata received his bachelor’s degree from Florida International University and his master’s degree from Harvard University. He succeeds Armando Bucelo, Jr. and is appointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending May 31, 2021.

Jose K. Fuentes, of Miami, is a government relations representative with Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Thomas University. Fuentes succeeds Armando Olivera and is appointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending May 31, 2019.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Valencia State College District Board of Trustees

Raymer Maguire III, of Orlando, is an eminent domain attorney with Maguire Lassman, P.A. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his juris doctorate degree from Florida State University. Maguire is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending May 31, 2021.

Daisy Lopez-Cid, of Kissimmee, is the owner of Remax Premier Properties. She also serves as the president of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals. Lopez-Cid is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending May 31, 2020.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board

Dawn Warren, of Longwood, is a property manager for Altamonte Heights Condos and Lake Tyler Condos. She succeeds Tamara McKee and is appointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending October 31, 2020.

This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Board of Medicine

Dr. Jorge Lopez, 60, of Orlando, is a physician with Florida Emergency Physicians of TeamHealth. Dr. Lopez received his Doctor of Medicine from the Autonomous Metropolitan University. He is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending October 31, 2021.

Dr. Merle Stringer, 75, of Panama City, is a neurosurgeon with Brain and Spine Center. Dr. Stringer received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. He is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending October 31, 2021.

Dr. Steven Falcone, 56, of Miami, is the chief executive officer of UHealth Clinical Practice and a professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Falcone received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He fills a vacant seat and is appointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending October 31, 2018.

These appointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority

Toni Appell, of Marathon, is a retired paraprofessional for the Monroe County School District. She is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending December 30, 2020.

David Ritz, of Key Largo, is the president of Ocean Reef Community Association. He is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending December 30, 2020.

Robert Dean, of Key West, is the owner of Dean Lopez Funeral Home. He is reappointed for a term beginning February 27, 2018 and ending December 30, 2020.
